Rouge mécanique

With the highly stylized aesthetic I try to achieve, I sometimes spot a location or a backdrop, position myself there, and wait for something to happen. Other times, it’s a pure one-shot opportunity.
That was the case with this photograph, taken in a small alleyway in Bangkok. I remember I had been walking for hours, exhausted and drenched in sweat, and I was just about ready to put my camera away.
As I came alongside this guy cleaning his motorcycle, I thought to myself: “The motorcycle is red, his tattoos are dotted with red, there’s a red plastic bag, I just walked past a red refrigerator, even the pavement has reddish tones... this could make for something interesting.” So I took the picture over my shoulder as I turned around, barely even slowing down!
