Welcome to my official website. I’m Daniel Bay, a travel photographer.
This portfolio is an exploration of my work, which is primarily focused on street photography. I’m trying to develop a style with its own visual identity. I travel through different countries by scooter or motorcycle, wandering the streets in search of images. My aim is to move as far away as possible from a documentary approach, treating the world around me almost like a piece of music. I don’t want the subject to take precedence over its surroundings; the two have to exist together. As a result, you’ll find photographs taken in the real world that somehow evoke scenes from films or figurative paintings. My strongest images often look as though they were carefully staged, yet they are nothing more than genuine street photographs captured in a fraction of a second.
Whenever time allows and the right encounters happen, I also use the street as a playground for natural-light fashion photography, with an aesthetic inspired by classic gangster films.
Behind the artistic project, there is often an adventure of its own. Travelling alone with little or no preparation inevitably leads to unexpected situations. Difficult conditions, memorable chance encounters and the discovery of unusual places are all experiences I’m happy to share with you. The blog contains detailed travel stories and field journals from my expeditions around the world, along with practical information for those who would like to follow in my footsteps through places that are sometimes rarely documented.
