During my stay, I had the privilege of meeting Mireille, an extraordinary woman with a deep love for Madagascar.
Through her association, Enawo, she helps build wells in villages without access to clean drinking water. She invited me to accompany her to one of the projects she supervises, at the top of the hill overlooking the town.

In this working-class neighbourhood, where it probably would not have been wise to venture alone, her presence opened a few doors for me. Everyone knows her, respects her, and welcomes her warmly, which allowed me to photograph some of the local residents.

A woman is sorting rice outside her home. The door is left only slightly ajar, as if she were quietly allowing the viewer a glimpse into her private world. The warm tones of the ochre earth are echoed by the cooler shades of the corrugated metal cladding the house. The woman's precise movements pause only when she lifts her eyes to meet mine...
