Alefa Barea !

Limited Edition Fine Art Print: Alefa Barea! by Daniel Bay

Alefa Barea!

What do these words mean? Barea is the nickname of Madagascar’s national football team, while Alefa can be translated as “Go!” or “Come on!” During major football tournaments involving the green, white and red national side, these words can be heard ringing out from countless passionate supporters. You can get a sense of this enthusiasm by reading the articles on the blog: I was in the streets of Diego-Suarez on the night of one of the greatest achievements in Barea history, the final of the 2025 CHAN.

I sincerely hope that these children playing football in the street will one day become professional players. And who knows—perhaps one of them will become the first player from the African continent to win the Ballon d'Or since Georges Weah.
