Malgache roulette

Nosy Be, Dar Es Salam village. A small fairground has set up on a vacant lot at the entrance to the village. A few rides spin the younger visitors around, filling the air with laughter and excited screams. The atmosphere is far more serious in the section reserved for gambling. While a street photographer must sometimes know how to impose himself, my approach remained, for the most part, restrained and discreet throughout the Gasy Stories project. Knowing nothing about this country or its culture, I often kept a certain distance from my subjects, especially since it was impossible for me to blend into the surroundings without attracting attention. But when people play, they sometimes forget the world around them. Completely absorbed in the game, the players paid no attention to my presence. This allowed me to get close enough to make this photograph. All on red! No more bets!
